Essential guide

Fireworks Safety Guidelines

To enjoy fireworks safely, please read and follow these guidelines before use. The original packaging and current local law always take priority.

Read the original label

Check the classification, minimum age, intended setting and product-specific safety distance before purchase or use.

Know your local rules

Permitted products, sale periods, use periods and locations vary. Check current official guidance where you live.

Store responsibly

Keep products in original packaging, dry and away from children, heat, ignition sources and unauthorised access.

Use only as supplied

Never modify, combine, dismantle or improvise with pyrotechnic products. Follow the manufacturer’s label exactly.

Age categories are not universal permission

A product’s category and age label do not override local restrictions. If official guidance and general website copy differ, follow the official guidance and product packaging.

Fireworks safety guidelines

To enjoy fireworks safely, please read and follow these guidelines before use.

Before use

  • Read the instructions. Always follow the directions and safety distances specified for each product.
  • Check local rules. Only use fireworks where and when permitted. Observe the age restrictions and requirements for the relevant product category.
  • Check the product. Do not use damaged, damp or incomplete fireworks.
  • Choose a suitable location. Ensure there is enough open space away from people, animals, buildings, vehicles and flammable materials. Do not use fireworks in strong winds or when there is an increased fire risk.
  • Stay sober. Do not handle fireworks under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Do not smoke while handling them.

During use

  • Position and secure the product exactly as instructed.
  • Never lean over it or hold it in your hand unless it is specifically designed for handheld use.
  • After lighting, move back to the specified safety distance.
  • Never aim fireworks at people or animals. Do not move a lit firework.
  • Do not dismantle, modify or combine fireworks into homemade arrangements.
  • Keep children and spectators outside the firing area. Be considerate of neighbours and animals.

If a firework fails to work

Keep your distance, do not lean over it and do not dismantle it. Follow the manufacturer’s waiting time and instructions. If you are unsure what to do next, contact the retailer.

Never try to relight it.

Storage and clean-up

Store fireworks in their original packaging in a dry place, away from heat, flames and children. Never carry loose fireworks in your pockets.

After use, wait for the time specified in the instructions and check the area for any smouldering debris. Do not put hot remains or unused, damaged or failed fireworks in household waste. Contact the retailer for advice on safe disposal. Do not return fireworks without first agreeing on an approved transport method.

In an emergency

In the event of a fire or serious injury, move to safety and call 112.

These guidelines supplement the manufacturer’s instructions. If you cannot ensure safe conditions, do not use fireworks.
